Although the sad end of summer approaches, not everything is as depressing as it seems. Austin, Texas’ The Strange Boys are beginning a month-long fall tour with Gentleman Jesse and His Men, giving fans of timeless rock n’ roll something to look forward to.
Comparable to the 13th Floor Elevators, the Strange Boys bring a sound to the year 2010 that is familiar to fans of psychedelic/garage rock n’ roll as well as incorporating new and current trends in this genre. Signed to In the Red records, it is easy to see how this band fits in well; the label is also home to Black Lips and Mark Sultan.
Opening for Gentleman Jesse and His Men, this tour seems to be one to follow if the lack of recent garage is getting you down. Having started their tour on September 2nd at the Saturn Bar in New Orleans, LA, the bands will be on tour until the 3rd of October, ending up in Memphis, TN. Dates can be found here on MySpace. For those of you who aren’t being graced with the presence of these bands in your hometowns, don’t fret; The Strange Boys formed in 2003 and have been on tour almost entirely since their formation, you’ll probably see them much sooner than later.
As off last night in Oslo, Norway, Caribou will be touring extensively for the next five months, wrapping up a world tour on December 12 in Barcelona, Spain. Dan Snaith’s incredible live act will play nearly every place imaginable in North/South America and Europe between those two dates, be sure to run down the list after the jump to find your stop. And if you haven’t done so already, listen to Caribou’s trippy and rhythmic new albumSwim out now.[via]

The band also toured briefly last year in support of their Enter the Vaselines reissue on Sub Pop. The Vaselines are also rumored to be releasing a new studio album in September, so this tour should feature plenty of new material if that album comes to fruition.

Minnesota rockers Tapes ‘n Tapes will be hitting the road for an extensive midwest tour starting this weekend. To kick things off, the band will be playing an outdoor concert at the Minneapolis Walker Arts Center, free and open to all ages on Sunday. The group is also hard at work finishing up their third studio album, a follow up to 2008′s Walk it Off. Check back for more details on the album as they become available, otherwise go hear the new Tapes ‘n Tapes material live.

It appears as though the killer bees are going to be hitting the road once again. Starting July 23rd at The Dome in Rome, the Wu-Tang Clan will embark on a European tour lasting until August 4th. It is yet to be announced which members will be touring, but with the release of Wu-Massacre earlier this year it would make sense that at least Method Man, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah will make the trip. Fingers crossed that the tour goes well and they decide to bring the Clan state-side. Check out all the dates and a track from the aforementioned Wu Massacre below.
The talented and beautiful Molly Erin Sarle, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, and Amelia Randall Meath are set to release their first two proper albums this month. The Vermont trio, better known as Mountain Man, self-released a run of cd-rs last year along with a digital offering of the album, but thanks to Partisan Records and Underwater Peoples the group is finally getting a proper offering.
Partisan will be releasing Mountain Man’s debut LP entitled Made the Harbor on July 20th (out already in the UK). They are offering a limited edition run of the vinyl as well, pressed on 180-gram vinyl with gorgeous “coke bottle green” coloring, which they have a preview of as well. This special run is 300 only so pre-order quickly if you are interested.
And on the same day, July 20th, Underwater Peoples will be releasing a complimentary EP on 10″ vinyl. Not complimentary in the sense that it’s free, but rather that the EP is a great piece to go with Made the Harbor. Entitled Sun Dog, the EP will feature tracks from the LP, but Underwater Peoples call them “a collection of alternative recordings”. Sun Dog is also available for pre-order.
The husband and wife duo of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, better knows as Tom Tom Club, are back on the road for the first time in 10 years starting in September. Although the band has played various shows over those years, this will be their first full-fledged US tour. Frantz has some great words about the tour as well,
“It will be a real pleasure for us to see so much of the USA again this fall. We are all very excited about this tour, to go out and make new friends and reconnect with old friends. The band consists of seven players, is smoking hot and completely live. We don’t use any sequencers or backing tapes at all!”
They will also be releasing a new album on September 28th called Genius of Live, a live compilation of previously recorded shows from their Live at the Club House album along with a brand new remix of “Genius of Love”. I would highly suggest trying to catch one of these shows, as it’s likely the last tour for this legendary new wave band. Check out all the dates and an MP3 after the break. Read the full story
Punk rockers Titus Andronicus have announced what is “likely the last leg” of their “Monitour” (their cleverly-titled tour to support The Monitor, the band’s latest album) which will take them through North America from late August to late September. They will receive support from Free Energy, the Thin Lizzy revivalists, and the guys in Titus Andronicus detail how that relationship (and admiration) began:
Mutterings of, “Hey, these guys aren’t bad,” quickly turned into MySpace visits during personal time, which turned into the Free Energy MySpace becoming the official party playlist of me and my roommates, to breathlessly anticipated concerts at Brooklyn Bowl, to show-flier-on-the-refrigerator declarations of superfandom. Next thing I knew, I was waiting on line for the bathroom at the Rolling Stone SXSW showcase gushing to Paul, their singer, about how much Free Energy, and especially their self-titled anthem, had taken over my music-listening life. That night, Titus Andronicus 6.0 forged our friendship forever in the fires of a Free Energy dance-a-thon. Here’s a video of them doing their thing that magical night, along with an informative interview.
Touching! It seems like the bands are a good fit for each other. Check out the tour dates below, but as the band instructs, do not fret if your city isn’t listed. They plan to add a few more dates in the near future.
Don’t miss this tour–there’s bound to be anthemic shouting and fist pumping aplenty.

Bear in Heaven were one of last year’s biggest buzz bands, and rightfully so, as their electro-infused rock makes for a thoroughly enjoyable listen every time through. So enjoyable, in fact, that last year’s Beast Rest Forth Mouth is getting its own remix album.
The band has hand selected each remix and their label Hometapes is championing it as “worthy of both headphones and dancefloors”. Some of the remixers include The Field, High Places, and Twin Shadow among others. And the album will be packaged with Beast Rest Forth Mouth orders soon, along with a solo release on September 14. The band is also touring extensively this summer, be sure to check out all the dates after the break, along with the new album’s complete tracklist.
