Dark Night of the Soul Gets An Official Release Date

The long-delayed collaboration between Dangermouse, Mark Linkous (AKA Sparklehorse) and filmmaker David Lynch is finally going to see the light of day.

The album was finished and ready for release last year but a dispute with the record label delayed the physical release indefinitely, causing the artists to make the album available online for free.

Since then the Mark Linkous has tragically passed on, taking his own life on March 6th of this year. It’s a great shame that he will not see the official release of this record.

Parlophone/EMI will release Dark Night of the Soul July 12 in the UK and July 13 in the U.S. via Capitol, packaged with several images shot by David Lynch. The album features several high profile guests including The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Iggy Pop. The full tracklist and list of guests is below.

01. Revenge (featuring Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips)
02. Just War (featuring Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals)
03. Jaykub (featuring Jason Lytle of Grandaddy)
04. Little Girl (featuring Julian Casablancas of The Strokes)
05. Angel’s Harp (featuring Frank Black of Pixies)
06. Pain (featuring Iggy Pop)
07. Star Eyes (I Can’t Catch It) (featuring David Lynch)
08. Everytime I’m With You (featuring Jason Lytle of Grandaddy)
09. Insane Lullaby (featuring James Mercer of The Shins)
10. Daddy’s Gone (featuring Mark Linkous & Nina Persson of The Cardigans)
11. The Man Who Played God (featuring Suzanne Vega)
12. Grim Augury (featuring Vic Chestnutt)
13. Dark Night Of The Soul (featuring David Lynch & horns by Scott Spillane of Neutral Milk Hotel)

The Strokes confirm September release for LP, Lollapalooza appearance

Strokes excitement is in the air. Frontman Julian Casablancas recently told the Chicago Tribune that we can expect the fourth Strokes album by September. Neat.

He also goes on to say that The Strokes have been confirmed for this year’s Lollapalooza fest and the band is now getting the biggest offers of their career, after lasting almost a decade longer than people originally thought they would. I suppose that’s quite a victory for those gentlemen.

The Strokes begin recording sessions for fourth album

It’s been almost four years since the last Strokes album, First Impressions of Earth, and with the recent return of frontman Julian Casablancas releasing his own solo album, Strokes fans have been itching for some new material from all the guys. Rest assured, the wait is almost over. The band is currently recording with producer Joe Chiccarelli, who is best known for his work with The White Stripes, The Shins, and My Morning Jacket.

The band’s website will feature “video vignettes” from their recording adventures. If you’re in the U.K., catch them this summer headlining at festivals Isle of Wight (England) and RockNess (Scotland).

Julian Casablancas: “Effortlessly cool”

Julian Casablancas releases his first solo album Phrazes For the Young on October 19th, and anticipation has been heightened after the Strokes frontman made available the keyboard-driven first single 11th Dimension on his official MySpace.

Casablancas recently made his live solo debut in Tokyo, looking effortlessly cool as ever, as he crooned through a set of new material and old Strokes classics. Last month ago he confirmed plans for an ‘elaborate’ UK tour during a cover interview for British based New Musical Express.

Awash with his trademark laid-back, drawn-out vocals, the track can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/juliancasablancas.
