A while ago, music news sites were aflutter with the rumor that Panda Bear’s next LP was to be called Tomboy, and Panda Bear’s publicist has since confirmed those rumors, according to Pitchfork. Tomboy it is, then.
The album will serve as the follow-up to Panda’s critically-acclaimed Person Pitch (2007), and it is expected to be released in September on Paw Tracks Records. That’s a long time from now, considering Panda has been rocking some new material very recently, but hopefully good things really do come to those who wait.
Finally, a first real look at the upcoming visual album from Animal Collective and director Danny Perez. The visual album premieres tonight at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
This may seem like an odd choice for the group coming off of 2009’s critically acclaimed Merriweather Post Pavilion (onethirtybpm Review / The Top 50 Albums of 2009) but the project has been in the works for a few years now.
On January 15th Panda Bear from Animal Collective played a show with Pantha du Prince at Hebbel Am Ufer. And it was all new material, most likely from the upcoming record (except for Daily Routine). He played guitar on many songs which I’ve never seen before.
The recording isn’t too good because the bass was too load for recording. Yet the sound is good enough to listen to it, to get the feeling and even understand the words.
I recorded Pantha du Prince too, but the sound of that recording is so bad that I think no one would want to hear it. If somebody wants to anyway, please comment and I’ll upload it.
So last night in Miami, Panda Bear played a promotional gig for Nike with No Age. He headlined the night and performed a bunch of new songs, but for now we have high quality video of “Daily Routine” off of that album that we’re all highly anticipating, and “Bros” off 2007’s Person Pitch. Visuals by Danny Perez, who is doing that visual album project with them.

It appears that Panda Bear, No Age, and The Sads will be playing at a Nike event this Friday, December 5th, in Miami. If you live in the area and are interested in the event, it can’t hurt to RSVP. Read the full story
Panda Bear is one of those guys who can take almost anything and make it into a weird modern Beach Boys on acid song. However, I wouldn’t take those as fighting words, because most of us here at onethirtybpm including your current writer (Chris W.), find Panda Bear’s sound to be pure enjoyment.
This remix will be released as the B-side to The Notwist’s new (vinyl) Single which can be ordered here (at dominorecordco.us)
