Yeasayer have unleashed the video for their new single “Madder Red” which, with “Ambling Alp” and “O.N.E.”, makes a trilogy of fantastic and bizarre videos from their second album Odd Blood. This one demonstrates the extent to which Yeasayer’s popularity has risen over the past year; they have managed to snag Hollywood starlet Kristen Bell to star in it.
Bell looks as adorable as ever looking after her giant skull, blob, thing as it suffers. She also finds time to fit in an audition of some sort. For now you can only check out the clip at either The Guardian or Pitchfork.
Many of today’s popular disco and new-wave inspired bands owe their success to the groundwork that English synth-pop duo Yaz laid down some twenty years ago (known in the U.K. as Yazoo). 1982′s Upstairs at Eric’s was a huge success, reaching number 2 in the U.K. polls that year.
But Yaz only put out two albums, as both Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet went their separate ways musically. Yet in 2008 the two reunited to play a highly anticipated summer tour, playing to sold out audiences around the globe. Coupled with the rerelease of their two albums in one four-disc remastered boxset called In Your Room, buzz and excitement for Yaz might be at an all time high.
And the duo will continue to ride that wave of success this September when they release Reconnected Live, a two disc live album recorded during their 2008 reunion tour. If you haven’t heard Yaz before, now might be the perfect time to start. Look for Reconnected Live September 27th on Mute Records, and check out their spectacular single, “Situation,” above.
If you haven’t been excited about Liars forthcoming LP Sisterworld, now would be a good time to kick into excitement mode. This new video features strange, stranded-at-sea metaphors and flying rocks, but somehow, it works for the song. Stream it below:
Look for Sisterworld to come out on March 9 via Mute Records.
We still have a little under two weeks before Yeasayer drops their much-anticipated next album, Odd Blood. In the meantime, record label Secretly Canadian has released the song “O.N.E.” as a second single on the band’s website (run over there to snag the free download, stat).
The physical release of “O.N.E.” is expected on March 23. Odd Blood will be available on February 8 in the U.K. (via Mute) and February 9 in North America (via Secretly Canadian).
