[Matador; 2010]
Since giving us a glimpse of their fourth album last month with the free download of lead-single “Lights” Interpol have had an eventful time. First they announced the departure of their iconic bassist Carlos Dengler, who has been with them since the start, and then they were forced to cancel the majority of their summer North American tour after Bono’s back inury caused the cancellation of U2′s summer schedule, for which the New Yorkers were set to open.
Now they’re back on track, giving us more details of their highly-anticipated fourth LP. In a post on their website they have informed us that it is due in mid-September and will be self-titled. The full, short-but-rambling passage reads as follows:
News About # 4
The month of September; summer ends, classes begin. The coming of a new season is in the air as autumn approaches. A time of year when the natural world slips into a slumber, and Interpol releases it’s fourth studio recording. The self titled, self produced, long-player will be available world wide in mid September. We can’t wait to share our new effort with all of you. We’ve just announced some shows and we look forward to see you soon in your neck of the woods.
Kindly,
Interpol
That means it is arriving just in time for fans in Europe to hear it before they visit their shores. Interpol’s European tour spans the lasts over two months from late September to early December, touching dowin in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Austria and the UK. Full dates and ticket information can be found on their official website.
Replacing Carlos D on bass for their tour and the foreseeable future is Dave Pajo, formerly of Slint, who has tour with swathes of artists before, so should be a good fit.

Interpol, who had planned to tour the USA this summer in preparation for their imminent-but-yet-to-be-announced fourth album, have been forced to postpone the majority of their dates. This is due to them being planned around the dates they had been booked to open for U2, which have been delayed after Bono injured his back.
A note on their official website reads:
Good day to you all.
Unfortunately, due to the postponement of the upcoming U2 US dates, Interpol has had to rework its summer tour schedule.
With the exception of four shows, we have had to cancel our announced dates. Shows in Rochester, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Allentown will be happening. The rest of the shows will be rescheduled. If you have purchased tickets for a cancelled date, please contact the “point of purchase” and get a full refund.
We lament the change in plans, apologize for the inconvenience, and assure you that we’ll do you right – when the time is right and the light is nice.
The tourdates still going ahead are
06.21.2010 – Water Street Music Hall, Rochester, NY
06.22.2010 – Town Ballroom, Buffalo, NY
06.23.2010 – Mr. Small’s Theater, Pittsburgh, PA
06.25.2010 – Crocodile Rock Cafe, Allentown, PA
All other shows are postponed indefinitely.

Right after breaking the news that Carlos Dengler left the band, Interpol have announced new headlining summer dates. Opening for U2 during a few shows, they will be embarking on their own solo tour as well. As previously reported, Interpol will be introducing some “very exciting new recruits” on the road. In the past month, Interpol unveiled a new logo, released a new song, and now have scheduled tour dates. Now if only we could get a proper LP4 announcement.
