The follow up to American Idiot is finally here. Does the packaging match up to Green Day’s ambitious concept album?

Green Day have been staying busy. Between playing warm up shows in clubs, the band also recently posted all the lyrics + lyric book artwork on their site. Until today, the band could not confirm the tracklist. But now that the lyrics are up, the tracklist is also confirmed. The sprawling epic will be split in three acts, and consists of 18 tracks. We highly recommend you visit GDA (Green Day Authority) if you plan on reading the lyrics. They are much easier to read, and one page. You can find that here.
This album seems to be very dark, as the lyrical content is much more serious then their previous efforts.

Last night, at the Independent in San Francisco, Green Day took the stage for the first time in three years to rehearse new material from their upcoming album 21st Century Breakdown. The show also served as a trial run, as the band plans on playing the full album front to back for their upcoming world tour. The band played over a two hour set which consisted of numerous older songs in addition to 21st Century material. Pictures are from Green Day Authority as well as the setlist, which are after the jump.Â

A day after announcing details for their new album 21st Century Breakdown, the California based band just posted the album art on their site. If you also go here, you can hear 1 min of a new song from the record, altho it’s not much (mostly piano).

Green Day’s official site revealed the bands new album name:21st Century Breakdown. 21st Century will be the follow up album to their massively successful 2004 concept album – American Idiot. The band says the album will move forward with their new sound, so don’t expect a return to their roots (no more punk or faux punk – more rock and lengthy songs).
According to NME the album will be split into three acts: ‘Heroes And Cons’, ‘Charlatans And Saints’ and ‘Horseshoes And Handgrenades’. The album comes out in May, and can be pre-ordered here.
