After it was announced that the Beastie Boys would be canceling all tour dates, many wondered who would replace the Boys at various festivals as they were billed as headliners. The New Jersey based festival – All Points West, has announced that Jay-Z will be replacing them as headliner for the Friday slot.
This will be the first time Jay-Z has performed at a US festival, and seems to be a great choice as he was a big hit at European based festivals Glastonbury and Roskilde.

The Beastie Boys are canceling some tour dates and pushing back the release of their album, Hot Sauce Committee, Part 1 (previously scheduled for release on September 15) to a later date. Below is the announcement from Adam Yauch of the group AKA MCA:
Subject: HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM
hey all, there’s been a change in plans. please click this link to see a statement from me.
thanks,

It’s here! The physical release is set for the 14th but you can preorder or get the digital version here. It doesn’t look like the commentary is up yet (there’s going to be video commentary too) but you can stream both discs of the remaster, album videos, and live performances below:

And I thought they were just pulling a Mel Brooks.
Here’s a snippet from their interview with DiS:
DiS: If this is Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1, then that suggests there’s another part to follow?
Mike D: Yeah. …Pt. 2 is pretty much done. Basically we were making …Pt 1, had too many songs, so we recorded some more songs. Which sounds bizarre but it actually worked out, because it made it clear to us which songs were going to be on …Pt 1. Then we had this whole other album of songs: …Pt 2. …Pt 1’s going to be your regular CD in the stores and to download, but …Pt 2 is going to be released in…we’re still figuring it out, but a different way. More of a 2009 style.
Ad-Rock: MP3s could just rain from the sky.
Mike D: That could be it. Or you could get in the shower one day and, boom, all of a sudden you’re showered with MP3s. Or we might send people a seven-inch every few weeks, so you have a whole box set.
So either they’ll be “pulling a Radiohead” instead, or bringing back 7″-singles clubs. Either one sounds great to me.
DiS also has an analysis of every track from Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 on their site. It’s half insightful, half wanky, but check it out anyway.

Perhaps the most ridiculous Beastie Boys interview in years. They only played “Lee Majors Comes Again” and “B-Boys In The Cut” which we’ve both already heard, but we finally have a perfectly lined up version of “B-Boys In The Cut”. Listening to the full interview is a must. A lot of great quotes in there:
“Recently is a relative term when you’re building a time machine” – MCA
“King of Lunch, there is no higher. BBC DJs call me sire” – Mike D
Anyway, here are the MP3s:

Check it out, that’s in just under 15 minutes. 2:00pm EDT, 19:00 GDT.
I’ll be ripping the stream so keep your eyes peeled for posts later.

With all these posts you’d think that it’s national Beastie Boy day.
