In winter 2009, after pooling their dorm room demos, old friends Matt, Adam and Casey holed up in Los Angeles to make their first recordings as a band. Treating each song individually, the band reinterpreted Adam and Matt’s original malarial folk into truly compelling music. While eating a box of Trix, they found three green rings that miraculously fit together and immediately knew that they had to get serious and get signed! So they took their Big Star-ish, Radiohead-esque, Television-ness to onethirtybpm: a match made in heaven.
The three musketeers’ music is dynamic, loud and eclectic, created through an intensely collaborative process. Though not afraid of a twin-guitar approach, the band incorporates a wide spectrum of sonics, both electronic and acoustic. With songs written in New England winter and recorded in California sunshine, the music spans from introspective to outright danceable. The lyrics are intensely personal but self-consciously detached. Flora & Fauna focus on craft, approaching new music without disdain for what’s been around, revisiting old places with ears from the end of a decade.
