Though Islands’ frontman Nick Thorburn has been busy with his new project, Mister Heavenly, it looks like we will finally have a new Islands release to follow-up their 2009 album, Vapours, the band has revealed in a press release.
The record, the band’s fourth overall, should be out in early 2012 and is already finished. It will be released via Anti-Records. Those of you attending CMJ might get a sneak preview on what to expect as Islands plays a couple of intimate shows, 10-22 and 10-28 at The Dominion Theater and Lounge, in which it is possible that they could debut some new material. For now stay tuned for the official release information, which should be available soon.
Plugging away since 1999, The National finally hit mainstream success with the release of their 2010 album High Violet. Of course, this entailed their first world tour, but in the new documentary Mistaken For Strangers, it’s only the backdrop for the relationship between lead singer Matt Berninger and his younger brother Tom, who had no idea that these short videos he was shooting would turn into a public document of their troubled, if still loving brotherhood.
We talk with Israeli rockers Vaadat Charigim about some of their favorite records.
We talk with Yvonne Ambree and Jesse Barnes of Take Berlin about some of the records which influenced the recording of their debut EP, Lionize.
