You can hear the entire album here. She & Him is the collaboration between Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, and Volume 2 sees them bringing the same laid back 60’s pop sound from their debut: Volume 1.
NPR will be streaming the entire album from March 15th to the 23rd.
Ryan Adams, who dropped his pursuits with The Cardinals last year, has come back–albeit in different form. This time, he’s turning to “metal,” sort of like his releases under the Werewolph moniker. He has a metal album coming out (“most legit METAL record,” in his own words), called Orion, under his own Pax-Am label. If you’re curious to hear what it sounds like when Ryan Adams does “metal,” check out “Electrosnake,” a track from the forthcoming LP (streaming via Stereogum):
To me, it’s still so tinged with Americana that it just sounds like Ryan Adams’ version of metal, sort of like how Octahedron was supposedly The Mars Volta’s version of an acoustic record. Also, it’s safe to say that, while this might not be a metal record in a traditional sense, it’s pretty heavy. Ryan, didn’t you say that you were hoping to start writing quieter music?
We’ll see how the rest of Adams’ album sounds when we get more sneak peaks in the near future. Orion is being pressed next week, according to the man himself.
In case you haven’t already heard, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy is scoring an upcoming Noah Baumbach film called Greenberg (starring Ben Stiller). Sounds like an interesting matchup, all across the board.
To hear how the film has inspired Mr. Murphy’s compositional style, go over to We All Want Someone to Shout For and stream the radio rip of the song “Oh You (Christmas Blues).” It’s a very bluesy piece reminiscent of less proggy King Crimson songs. You might be surprised to realize that it’s Murphy singing. As he recently told Pitchfork, “My voice is more chameleonic than people would imagine, because I tend to yell the same way all the time.”
Watch out, MySpace. The good folks at NPR have been giving us quality full-album streams lately, and now, they add to that track record by premiering The White Stripes’ new live album, which will essentially be the audio version of Under Great White Northern Lights, the band’s forthcoming documentary about touring Canadian provinces. It will be released next week on DVD, CD, and deluxe box set.

One-man pop-punk institution Ted Leo (along with his “pharmacists”) is coming out with an album next week (March 9 in the U.S.) called The Brutalist Bricks. It’s being released alongside all these other amazing albums, so if you don’t have the money for all of them, you’ve got some tough choices to make! After hours upon hours of deliberation, the record store clerk might urge you to leave the store, but at least we know you have the best of intentions.
If you haven’t heard Mr. Leo’s forthcoming album yet, it’s streaming (in full) over at his MySpace, so go check it out.
The Brutalist Bricks will be released via Matador.
We already set you up with the full-album stream for the new Gorillaz album, but let’s not forget that Tuesday, March 9 (Monday, March 8 for non-North Americans) is a day full of quality releases. Prepare to be broke until your next paycheck!
Here are some albums coming out next week, all of which are now available for free streaming:
The Wild Complete is an ambitious act from Flagstaff, Arizona that grew from bedrooms in Southern California. Their debut self titled record, which is available now and was written and recorded in the bedrooms and houses of founding members Ryan Burian, Michael Miser, and Kate Hinojosa. In result came a seven track EP mixing folk and indie rock sounds accompanied by string and woodwind arrangements throughout. With recent additions to the band Andrew Paffrath and Aaron Mortemore, The Wild Complete is set to support the album with a summer 2010 tour across the United States, look for them coming through your city in the near future.
The DFA-signed neodisco fiends Hercules and Love Affair have remixed two versions of “Bad Romance” for the Lady Gaga remix collection, Bad Romance: The Remixes. These remixes are included on Part Two of the collection, which is currently available on iTunes, along with Part One.
Andy Butler and Kim Ann Foxman, currently the two core members of Hercules and Love Affair, have contributed both a regular remix and a dub remix of the glam queen’s hit song. Fortunately, you can stream the remixes on Lala:
One of our writers (Sam Olson) has already heard and reviewed the new Pantha du Prince album, but now, the rest of us can finally hear it, too. Black Noise is an incredible work in minimalist electronica, and the entire album has been provided for streaming in the awesomely wintry-looking widget below.
Listen closely for a cameo from Panda Bear on the track, “Stick to My Side.” Also, Tyler Pope (from !!!) is in the album somewhere.
Be sure to grab the free single “The Splendour” (courtesy of Rough Trade) while you wait for the album’s physical release on February 8.Pantha du Prince – “The Splendour”
Hot Chip fans will be glad to know that the band’s upcoming release One Life Stand is being streamed in its entirety on their MySpace page. The full album stream comes a little more than a week before the official release date (February 8 via EMI), which has long been customary for MySpace album streams.
The play counts are a little low thus far–go and show Hot Chip some love!
