Earlier today it was reported that a few of Arcade Fire’s new double a-side 12″ singles had found their way into the world. It turns out that one of them ended up with Zane Lowe in the Radio 1 studio. He proceeded to play both of the songs “The Suburbs” and “Month of May” twice each and now we can present them to you here for as many more listens as you desire.
UPDATE: Studio quality versions are now up.

fix it fix it fix it! Must hear month of may!
May 26th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
Sorry guys, I just updated the article to have the correct songs. For some reason the system had a hiccup.
It should be 100% working now.
May 26th, 2010 at 9:00 pm
'Both songs are the same'. I suspect this is going to be the story with Arcade Fire. Neon Bible felt like an overblown and bombastic version of the excellent Funeral.
May 26th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
listen on a good stereo a coupe times… a sign of good things to come!
May 26th, 2010 at 11:12 pm
sounds less like arcade fire in a way but its cool
May 27th, 2010 at 12:51 am
Wonderful thank you so so much
May 27th, 2010 at 2:57 am
The Suburbs is a fantastic song.. haven't heard Arcade Fire sound so sonic before… it's good.

ACE i like them more than neon bible already. less like a parody of funeral more like GOOD THUMPIN' NEW TRACKS
May 27th, 2010 at 8:43 am
i hate it. it's soul-less, pretencious and doesnt sound like them.
May 27th, 2010 at 9:51 am
Loving the new Arcade Fire tracks.
May 27th, 2010 at 11:11 am
Brilliant!!! Love them both. Truly one of the best bands in the last 30 years! Thank you.
May 27th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
The Suburbs is good but I'm not feeling the other song
May 27th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
This band has a perfect sound and vibe readymade for amazing musical moments and emotional release. Their ONLY problem is that they don't know how to write songs that will mean ANYTHING to people 50 years from now…..they have the same problem most young bands of this musical age have. Because the internet allows smaller bands to gain a good enough following to survive, those bands never have an incentive to come up with music that can cross over, or contain a meaning that a majority of folks can understand. Some peeps might call that 'being commercial.' But think of it this way. If I'm American and wrote a book in English with American cultural values, and I hope it to be successful in the Middle East, I am expecting a failure. Unfortunately most of these 'indie bands' or whatever Arcade Fire is have amazing sounds and feelings and all that. Just no songwriting to complete the puzzle.
May 27th, 2010 at 4:24 pm
John, you make no sense. How could they not 'sound like them'? They're the ones playing, right? You don't get to decide what they sound like and there is no definitive answer to what they sound like.
May 27th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
Zack, I'm sorry you don't understand the Arcade Fire, simply because you're missing out. They are brilliant songwriters, and have incredibly intelligent lyrics. Part of their charm is that not everyone does get it, and it's a mistake to think that their songs aren't filled with meaning. These guys are some of the most profound artists out there. It's cool that you can still appreciate their music even without the meaning.
May 27th, 2010 at 6:09 pm
“suburbs” is a blatant rip off of “people are strange” from the doors
May 27th, 2010 at 6:23 pm
Love.
The Suburbs just makes me smile, and I am now on pins and needles for a new record.
Month Of May reminds me of a re-working of the Kids Are Alright, don't ask.
May 27th, 2010 at 7:17 pm
i love arcade fire. and they are my favourite band of all time. loving both songs. I cant help but think suburbs sounds exactly like a song from an australian band called “the sleepy jackson”.. The song is called Good Dancer. You tube it – and tell me its not an almost identical riff and melody!
May 27th, 2010 at 7:20 pm
listen to funeral a bunch of times at 2am on a long car ride home in the backseat, drifting off to sleep, report back here once that happens
May 27th, 2010 at 9:20 pm
Its pretty righteous i'd say, pumping.
May 27th, 2010 at 10:54 pm
Completely agree with you, sir. You raise a lot of valid points.
May 27th, 2010 at 11:33 pm
I'm curious. Name an artist that you think is making music that “will mean ANYTHING to people 50 years from now”, and if you are thinking Bob Dylan or any other no brainer please don't bother replying. Also, please say Evanescence. It would make my day.
May 28th, 2010 at 11:35 am
Is it me or does The Suburbs sound like The Thrills?
May 28th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
huge Arcade Fire fan, but this kinda blows, immediacy with no substance, maybe a ridiculous amount of listens will reveal something, but i dont think so, none the less i anticipate the album release
May 28th, 2010 at 3:24 pm
stirring young band, I love their sound.
love from New Zealand
May 28th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Stirring young band, God bless them I love their sound.

Oh Dear. After a couple of listens – The Suburbs, pleasant enough tune (I’ve heard something like it several times elsewhere but can’t place it) but too long, repetitive, and, for AF, musically unimaginative. Month of May – what is that all about? When did they become simple guitar band rockers sounding like a parody of their own support act from 2003? Is it me or is there is distinct lack of instruments on both tracks? It seems like they went out of their way to avoid Spector-style layered sound and big crescendo climaxes this time around but why? That’s what they do and they are the best in the world at it by a country mile. If it isn’t broken don’t fix it. The rock music business is littered with the carcasses of bands that blew their third album. I hope and pray AF haven’t done that and I suppose it’s unfair to judge off just two tracks but on this evidence the critics will be sharpening their knives. Zack – you make a well argued point but I can’t agree. If life and death, war and peace, religious conflict and the way we live our lives doesn’t mean anything, either now or in 50 years time, what does? Anyone going to see AF at Dalhalla in Sweden, 30 June, prepared to share a car/expenses from Stockholm? Email me at djbentley@fsmail.net. Cheers.
May 28th, 2010 at 4:49 pm
don't be silly
May 29th, 2010 at 4:18 am
Two spins of The Suburbs and I'm hooked to tears already!
May 29th, 2010 at 6:07 am
This might be the second time I've written on one of these posts in my lifetime, and I'm certain I won't check back so save your comments. These guys are every single thing that's still good about music today. Month of May will grow on us all that let it, but Suburbs? That song after listen one is already the best thing I've heard in months. So excited for the whole thing to just be here.
I loved Jay Perly's comment! Amen brother!!!
May 29th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
“The Suburbs” sounds like the band Delta Spirit which has grown to be my favorite band over Arcade Fire. All good music though.
May 31st, 2010 at 3:34 am
I think the point of Arcade Fire's music being short-lived is irrelevant because this is the problem of contemporary music in general. Plus, 'indie' music (for lack of a better term) is focused on creating new sounds, hence why it is so perpetually replaced. I'm not in anyway defending independent music, just explaining it's values.

The Month of May sounds good, it has a pulse and an upbeat tempo. Very rock based, which I like. Different for AF, guitar and drum driven rather than the 8-10 instrument ensemble we are used to.
Suburbs, however, to me is a major bomb. I find it lacks substance, musicianship, and is rather grating. After a few listens I think it should be pushed to the 'burbs of my musical collection; far our to the fringes, somewhere around Paul McCartney's Pipes for Peace.
June 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 am
The fact is that they are just brilliant!!!
Coming from the french speaking province of Quebec, Canada.
They are the biggest emerging band from the Montreal Sound:
Arcade Fire, The New Pornographers, Feist, Metric, Broken Social Scene, The Breastfeeders, The Dears, The Stills,Unicorns, Think About Life, Clues, Silly Kissers, Parlovr, Arianne Moffatt, Claass, Pierre Lapointe, Patrick Watson, Cowboys Fringants, Karkwa, Coeur de Pirate, Yann Perreault…
Écoutez pour Voir!!!!

@TheGuyWhoLikesPie. I couldn't agree with you more. I attended a Bob Dylan gig a few years back and everyone was complaining he didn't sing the songs the way they like them sung. Dylan couldn't give a f+ck. We enjoy musicians that have integrity, and to keep this you can't be worried about what the most fickle of the fans wants, fans like John. Personally I think these AF tracks are banging
June 3rd, 2010 at 9:05 am
Uhhhh! yeah dude we decide as the fans! Are yo a coksmith or something! Like have you heard the two new songs, like month of may! the first line is gonna make a record in the month of may! Arcade Fire's other albums didnt take just a month to make, but almost a lifetime. Now they are being pressed from the label to produce another record, so they are gonna just throw one together real quick instead of putting their blood, sweat, and tears into it! Get It! The first single i heard from funeral i feel in love with, then i heard the single neon bible and fell in love all over agian. I heard month of may and i thought to myself, wow you guys are really gonna jack the misfits guitar scheme and tell us your making a record in the month of may! thanks for the effort arcade fire!
June 3rd, 2010 at 9:11 am
Type o Negative, Sublime, Nine Inch Nails, The Arcade Fire and and whats that dudes name that people still remember from the 1800's. Mozart or beethoven or something like that! HAHAHAH All these bands are going to mean something to me 25 years from now! if i make it to 50 they will mean something then!
June 3rd, 2010 at 9:12 am
I AGREE!
June 3rd, 2010 at 9:14 am
Dude your going to tell me you get the same feeling when listening to these tracks as you do when listening to Wake Up or My Body is a Cage! Im calling you out! Thats BS! Shanannagans on you sir!
June 3rd, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Month of May is a great song, kind of 50″s style, it make you move and that's what i like… These guys knows about musik and that's great !! Suburb will be a classic !!
June 3rd, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Seriously people. Anyone on here who is talking smack is pretentious and I am sure AF wouldn't care if you chose not to listen to them anymore. Maybe they want to find out how many TRUE fans they have. There is raw emotion and extreme effort in everything they produce. They rock and have the right to change their sound. If you are all real fans, you will appreciate anything they put out. My husband and I fell in love listening to Funeral everytime we were in the car. I will love them for 100 years!!!
June 3rd, 2010 at 8:33 pm
MGMT's new album is amazing but was written to weed out the jocks, or people like the one's who used to beat them up in high school. Maybe Arcade Fire put their hearts into this AND made things a bit different to get rid of poser fans. In 2 or 3 years, new influences come along for musicians as well as life experiences. I get chills everytime I hear an Arcade Fire song…if you don't, listen to Good Charlotte or Paramore

Thanks for putting up high quality Mp3's! The ones I had gave me a headache.

do u know the difference between a record and an album?
June 16th, 2010 at 4:50 am
OKAY TO EVERYONE WHO IS DISSING ON Bob Dylan. .how do you know this doesn't affect the future generation? His musix has influenced me & many others in many ways especially through politics and the emotions involved through the people at the time.. I've learned alot from back in the day because of his music. Brilliant. AND JUST SO YOU KNOW AF considers Bob Dylan their hero and has inspired them in song writing.. I love them both. and if you're complaining at all, then your just not open minded with music and can't accept that sometimes music is going to have the same sounds, but their all still different and unique in their own way. Just like us. BE OPEN MINDED. & accept peoples music. It should always be promoted.
June 16th, 2010 at 4:52 am
thats exactly what i say!

These two new songs r great. They dont have the usual AF instrumentals, but hey, its only 2 tracks from an album of 16! They're putting their touch on a different sound as is AF. They always come out with new sounds (ala. Funeral and then Neon Bible). love the new music and excited to see where they go with their new album. im soooo glad to hear some new stuff from the best band out there, AF!
June 27th, 2010 at 4:11 am
You realize the time between Funeral's release and Neon Bible's release is about the same as Neon Bible's release and this one, right? How are they being pressed if the the release date of the album gives them the same amount of time?
Also, I don't recording an album in 3 different areas of the world means they've rushing it…
June 29th, 2010 at 2:39 am
Why don't we wait until we can hear the whole album before we criticize? I have a really difficult time listening to one Arcade Fire song. I like these songs, but maybe they will sound even better in the grander scheme of things.
June 29th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Sounds just like Arcade Fire to me. I love it!
June 29th, 2010 at 5:50 pm
Oh, and…music is a gift. Shut up and enjoy it.
July 3rd, 2010 at 4:30 pm
So I went on Youtube and listened to the Sleepy Jackson song, and I have to say it sounds nothing like “The Suburbs.” Maybe the same overall chord progression. But the arrangement, the vocals, even the melody really. Completely different.

Neil Young Channeling through Suburbs (Piano – Harvest Moon??)….. May – Rock N Roll welcome on my radio….

They punish previously worse than most the dangers of texting patch driving, but the new tarrif from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) gives more sad nature of the actuality of these dangers.
