R.I.P. Jay Reatard

A huge and very sad shock today, with the news of the passing of Memphis musician Jay Reatard. Goner Records is stating: “It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public.”

After many years in the fertile Memphis garage rock scene (including production on one of the finest garage rock albums of the last decade, Reigning Sound’s Too Much Guitar, Jay came to prominence with 2006′s Blood Visions album, a tightly wound set of singalong garage-punk masterpieces. The success of that record saw him sign to Matador, where he released 2009′s Watch Me Fall.
